Contoh teks Narrative:

Rara Anteng and Jaka Seger

                      Once upon a time, there was a king named King Brawijaya. He ruled Majapahit kingdom. He has daughter Named Roro Anteng. Roro Anteng felt in love with Jaka Seger. He was a man from Brahmin castle. King Brawijaya didn’t agree with their relationship.
                      Roro Anteng and Jaka Seger left Majapahit. They moved to a place near Mount Bromo. They ruled the region together. The people were prosperous under their leadership. However they were unhappy because they had no children. Desperate, they decided to climb to the top of Mount Bromo. They pray for helping to the god of Mount Bromo. He granted their wish. However, the youngest child must be sacrificed in the crater of the volcano.
                      After giving birth to 25 children, Roro Anteng and Jaka Seger have sacrificed their last children, Kesuma. If they broke their promise, they would be threatened with catastrophe. After Kesuma was sacrificed, they heard Kesuma’s voice. He told everyone not to forget to perform workship.
Until now, the Tenggerese still perform the annual Kasada festival to remember Kesuma’s sacrifice. The word tengger is derived from the last syllables of Roro Anteng and Jaka Seger. They present annual offerings of rice, fruits, vegetables, livestock, and other local products.


Monkey and Crocodile

                One day a monkey wanted to cross a river. He saw a crocodile in the river, so he asked the crocodile to take him across the other side. The crocodile told the monkey to jump on its back. Then the crocodile swam down the river.

                Now, the crocodile was very hungry, so when it was in the middle of the river, it stopped and said to the monkey, “Monkey, my father is very sick. He must eat the heart of the monkey. Then he will be strong again.” The monkey thought for a while.

                Then he told the crocodile to swim back to the river bank. “What’s for?” asked crocodile. “Because I didn’t bring my heart with me,” Said the monkey. “I left it under the tree, near some coconuts.” So, the crocodile turned around and swam back to the bank of the river. As soon as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped off crocodile’s back and climbed up to the top of a tree.
“Where is your heart?” asked the crocodile. “You are foolish,” the monkey said to the crocodile. “Now I am free and you have nothing.” The monkey told the crocodile not to try to fool him again. The crocodile swam away, hungry.



The Three Fishes
Once, three fishes lived in a pond. One evening, some fishermen passed by the pond and saw the fishes. “This pond is full of fish,” they told each other excitedly. “We have never fished tomorrow morning with our nets and catch these fish!” they said, then the fisherman left.
When the eldest of the three fishes heard this, he was troubled. He called the other fishes together and said, “Did you hear what the fishermen said? We must leave this pond at once. The fishermen will return tomorrow and kill us all.”
The second of the three fishes agreed. “You are right,” he said, “We must leave the pond.” But the youngest fish laughed. “You are worrying without reason”, he said, “we have lived in this pond all our lives, and no fishermen has ever come here. Why should these men return? I am not going anywhere; my luck will keep me safe.”
The eldest of the fishes left the pond that very evening with entire family. The second fish saw the fishermen coming in the distance early next morning and left the pond at once with all his family. The third fish refused to leave even then.
The fishermen arrived and caught all the fish left in the pond. The third fish’s luck did not help him, he was caught and killed too.The fish that saw trouble ahead and acted before it arrived as well as the fish who as acted as soon as it came both survived. But the fish that relied only on luck and did nothing all died. So also in life.


Peyusuk Beach
Once upon a time, there were a king and his queen who lived in the kingdom of Beliyu. They didn’t have any child. Until one night the queen had a dream of a turtle. It said that the queen would have a baby, and she had to give a Komala necklace to her baby. The queen woke up and she was holding a Komala necklace in her hand. She told her dream to the king and he was very happy.
Shortly, the queen’s dream became reality she delivered a beautiful baby girl. The king named her Komala. She grew up as pretty girl, however she had a bad attitude because her parents always spoiled her too much.
One day, Komala heard her parents were talking about the turtle in her mother’s dream. She thought that the turtle was very interesting animal, so she wanted it as her pet. She insisted to find it, and the king allowed her to look for the animal.
Accompanied with the king’s guards Komala searched the turtle, and finally, she found it in a beach. She shouted to it, “Penyu busuk wait for me” in several times, but the turtle keep swimming. Komala ran after it into the sea, she tried to catch it. Until then she finally drowned and disappeared, and all of her guards could not save her. Now people call her the beach, Peyusuk.
